Acapulco Mexican Bakery
This is our top pick among the vibrant Mexican bakery options near Muscatine. Located off of N. Calhoun St. West in West Liberty, Acapulco has all of the traditional Mexican bakery staples. Some of our favorites include conchas of different flavors, mini conchas, pan dulche rolls, Gallinas, and Oreja pastries.
Acapulco also serves great flan if you’re in the mood for something extra sweet. Additionally, if you want to eat a hearty meal before you sample their baked goods, Acapulco serves some delicious savory dishes as well. These include an array of different types of tacos, burritos, and soups. To top it all off, Acapulco Mexican Bakery has some of the friendliest service in town!
The Coffee Belt
Right of E. 2nd Street, The Coffee Belt is not only a great place to stop for coffee. They also have delicious baked goods to help you start off your day right or simply enjoy a midday snack. The Coffee Belt has pastries, muffins, and scones of various flavors.
They also have slices of Tres Leches cake, which is a type of Mexican dessert made up of a sponge cake drenched in three different kinds of milk: heavy cream, evaporated milk, and condensed milk. This cake is the perfect sweet treat! If you opt for a scone at The Coffee Belt, we highly recommend the blueberry. And if you’re in the mood for a smoothie, this coffee shop/bakery has a great selection, including mango, banana, strawberry, and berry varieties.
Hy-Vee
If you haven’t been to the bakery section of Hy-Vee on 2nd street yet, you’re really missing out! Hy-Vee is a grocery store that doesn’t skimp on baked goods. They have everything from cupcakes to cakes to different types of delicious, fresh-baked breads, and everything in between! In particular, we’re big fans of the lemon poppy seed loaf, blueberry dessert loaf, fruit danishes, and cinnamon crumb cake.
The cherry Texas coffee cake at Hy-Vee is a great buy if you want to treat your family or co-workers to something sweet (but not too sweet) for breakfast. And be careful with the sticky pecan danish rolls. They’re so good, they’re almost addictive!
