The Escape has a long history of firsts. It was one of the first unibody Ford SUVs, one of the first American hybrid SUVs, and the first hybrid that Ford offered in its lineup. For nearly a quarter of a century, it’s been one of the most popular vehicles in the company’s portfolio, and indeed, one of the most popular SUVs in general for drivers in Muscatine and beyond.

The 2025 model maintains the Escape’s stellar standard of affordability and practicality. Here’s everything you need to know about one of this year’s best family vehicles.

2025 Ford Escape Trims and Price

First, let’s talk about the bottom line. Here are the available Escape trims along with their starting MSRP:

  • Ford Escape Active: $29,515
  • Ford Escape ST-Line: $30,360
  • Ford Escape ST-Line Select: $33,195
  • Ford Escape Platinum: $35,310
  • Ford Escape ST-Line Elite: $36,305
  • Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid: $37,400

With a starting price under $30k and an entire range of trims priced under $40k, including a PHEV variant, the Escape lineup is one of the most affordable compact SUVs on the road today.

2025 Ford Escape MPG and Powertrains

Just a second ago, we mentioned the plug-in hybrid version of the Escape. In fact, the Escape has four different engine options to choose from, each with their own advantages and fuel economy ratings.

There are two gas-powered engine options. The base motor is the 1.5-liter EcoBoost® engine, which puts out 180 horsepower and nets up to 27 MPG city/34 MPG highway/30 MPG combined. A more powerful 2.0-liter EcoBoost® is also available as the standard engine on the upper-level trims, and this motor puts out 250 horsepower and gets up to 23 MPG city/31 MPG highway/26 MPG combined

All gas-powered trims aside from the base-level Escape Active can also be optioned with the 2.5-liter IVCT hybrid engine. This system creates 192 horsies and returns an estimated 42 MPG city/36 MPG highway/39 MPG combined

Finally, the Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid gets the best fuel economy of the bunch, with 101 MPGe and 40 MPG combined after the battery is drained. When the battery is fully charged, it can travel an estimated 37 miles purely on electric power, allowing drivers to commute and run errands without burning a single drop of gas.

One last important thing to note: The Escape can be equipped with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and this will affect its gas mileage slightly.

2025 Ford Escape Interior

Despite its official status as a compact SUV, the Escape provides drivers and passengers alike with plenty of room to stretch out, plus ample room for cargo. The standard gas engine model has 42.4 inches of legroom in the front row and 40.7 inches in the rear, as well as up to 65.4 cubic feet of storage capacity with the second row folded flat.

The Plug-in Hybrid variant has slightly less legroom and cargo capacity due to its larger battery pack, but it still remains competitive among other compact plug-in SUVs.

The interior is well-furnished for its price point, with standard features including dual-zone climate control, steering-mounted cruise and media controls, and two spacious center consoles. Available features include a remote start system, wireless charging pad, head-up display, and the Panoramic Vista Roof®.

2025 Ford Escape Infotainment

The Escape comes with either an 8.0-inch or 13.2-inch LCD center touch screen display, both of which run the SYNC® 4 infotainment system, which ensures top-tier responsiveness and an intuitive interface. Standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, SiriusXM® capability, four USB ports, and FordPass® Connect with in-vehicle Wi-Fi.

Available upgrades to the infotainment experience include Connected Navigation and a Bang & Olufsen 10-speaker audio system with subwoofer.

2025 Ford Escape Safety Features

For the 2025 model year, the Ford Escape received multiple five-star crash test ratings from NHTSA thanks to its extensive standard safety features, including the Safety Canopy® System and airbags.

It also comes with an array of standard driver assistance systems, including:

  • Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Dynamic Brake Support
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane-Keeping Assist
  • Lane-Keeping Alert
  • Driver Alert
  • BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking

In addition, the Escape has extra available features like Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Evasive Steering Assist, Intersection Assist, Rear Parking Sensors, and Reverse Brake Assist.
