Trim Levels (Exterior)

The 2022 Ford Explorer comes in eight trim levels: Base, XLT, Limited, ST-Line, Timberline, ST, King Ranch, and Platinum. The base has a power liftgate and LED headlights, while the XLT adds roof rails. The ST-Line rolls on 20-inch wheels with a black grille and tinted headlights and taillights. You get all-terrain tires on the off-road-ready Timberline. The ST offers quad chrome exhaust tips, and the King Ranch gives you unique wheels to help your Explorer stand out in the crowd. Moving up to the Platinum gets you 21-inch wheels and a unique satin chrome grille.

Engine (Power)

Depending on trim level, the 2022 Ford Explorer has a few engine options. The standard for most trims is a 2.3-liter four-cylinder paired with a 10-speed transmission. This engine gets 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. You can also get a hybrid option on the Limited. The hybrid is a V-6-based powertrain that garners a combined total output of 318 horsepower. The powerful ST comes with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that delivers 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque to keep you ahead of the pack.

Performance

While rear-wheel drive is standard on the 2022 Ford Explorer, you can trade it out for the optional intelligent four-wheel drive for better performance on various road and weather conditions. Customize the drive based on terrain or mood using the select drive modes. You can choose from Tow/Haul, Eco, Slippery, Sport, Trail, Snow/Sand, and Normal. Interior
