Trim Levels
Angled lines and a bold front grille with the Ford logo featured front and center greets your eyes when you first approach the latest Explorer. To get exactly the appearance elements you want, you can choose from five trim levels. The lineup starts out with the self-named Explorer model and moves up through the XLT, Limited, ST, and Platinum. A power liftgate, LED taillamps, a molded-in rear bumper step, and a body-color liftgate spoiler are all standard. Upgrading to a higher trim level means having access to features like LED fog lamps, quad chrome exhaust tips, a hands-free foot-activated liftgate, and roof rack side rails.
Engine
The standard engine for the Ford Explorer is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers an impressive 280 horsepower and up to 310 pound-feet of torque. When you choose either the ST or the Platinum trims, you can upgrade to a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine. In the Platinum, this engine generates 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, while in the ST, it pumps out an incredible 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. A 3.3-liter hybrid engine is another option for those who put efficiency at the top of their list.
Performance
No matter which of the Explorer's engines you choose, it will come mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission that glides seamlessly through the gears for smooth, quick shifting. On the road or off, the Terrain Management System ensures you can take on any adventure with ease. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but you can upgrade to intelligent four-wheel drive if you plan on taking your Explorer off the beaten path.
Interior
Inside the Ford Explorer, you'll find a versatile space that can accommodate up to seven people comfortably or a maximum of 87.8 cubic feet of gear. So regardless of how many people you need to bring along or what they want to pack, you'll have no problem making it work.
