The Ford Explorer has only grown in popularity over the last few years and earned a reputation for being one of the top dogs in the SUV space. The 2020 model year release of the Explorer is no exception, thanks to a healthy number of trims and engine configurations to choose from. Trim Levels
There are five distinct trim levels to choose from on the 2020 Ford Explorer. The exterior has a bold rugged overall that features deep beveled accents and an angular grill design. The base trim features a black grille and body-colored front bumper. Black body-side cladding and a black rear bumper give the full-size SUV a modern two-toned look. It also includes 18-inch alloy wheels.
The second available trim level is the XLT. It has a similar look to the base trim but features chrome accents and heated side-view mirrors. In the middle of the pack is the Limited trim. It features larger 20-inch wheels and a metallic-colored grille with chrome embellishments, giving the Limited a more premium exterior appearance. The ST and Platinum top the Explorer lineup. The ST adds chrome-tipped exhaust and turn signal indicators in the side-view mirrors, but steps down to the black grille instead of the metal look grille. The Platinum trim is complete with metallic embellishments including the grille, door handles, and bumper inserts.
Engine
There are three different standard engine configurations available on the 2020 Ford Explorer depending on which trim level you opt for. The base, XLT, and Limited trims all feature a 300-horsepower four-cylinder engine. The ST packs the most power with a 400 horsepower V-6 engine. The Platinum trim also includes a V-6, but with an output of 365 horsepower.
Performance
All trims have excellent performance features and have some level of four-wheel drive inclusion. The Base, XLT, and limited trims have configurations for either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The ST and Platinum trims are only available with four-wheel drive. All trims feature a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Interior
The 2020 Ford Explorer received a few interior improvements. It includes a new-look driver information display and center console that's equipped with today's most in-demand tech. The 12.3-inch driver information cluster is completely customizable so you can decide what information you want to see as you drive. With regards to entertainment, the 10.3-inch-vertical touchscreen display is easy to use and responsive. Use it to queue up music or podcasts from Apple Music or make calls easily.
