Trim Levels
The 2020 Ford Escape is available in several trim packages, including the S, SE, SE Sport Hybrid, SE Plug-In Hybrid, SEL, SEL Plug-In Hybrid, Titanium Hybrid, Titanium, and Titanium Plug-In Hybrid. Every trim includes daytime running lights, a body-color rear spoiler, front and rear skid plates, a rear liftgate, and dual chrome exhaust tips. The SEL and Titanium models also include fog lights and a hands-free, foot-activated liftgate.
Escape owners can choose from a variety of modern exterior colors. Exterior paint options include rapid red, star white, velocity blue, magnetic gray, ingot silver, dark Persian green, desert gold, agate black, and blue.
Engine
The standard engine on the gas-powered S, SE, and SEL trims is a 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine. The gas-powered Titanium features a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Hybrid Escapes are powered by a 2.5-liter I-4 Atkinson-cycle engine paired with a continuously variable transmission and 88-kW electric motor.
Front-wheel drive is standard on all models. All-wheel-drive is available on all trims except for the plug-in hybrids. The all-wheel-drive models automatically switch between front-wheel and all-wheel drive, providing the optimum balance between performance and fuel efficiency.
Performance
Every trim in the Escape is equipped with torque vectoring control, curve control, and AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control. These advanced performance technologies help improve cornering and traction in slippery conditions. Selectable drive modes include Eco, Sport, Normal, Slippery, and Deep Snow/Sand. Each drive mode automatically adjusts the engine's electronic stability and traction control systems to provide optimum traction.
The gas-powered S, SE, and Titanium models have an EPA-rated fuel-efficiency of 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. The gas-powered SEL has a fuel economy of 27 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. Hybrid Escape trims offer an impressive fuel-efficiency of 44 mpg city and 37 mpg highway. Plug-in hybrids can fully charge on a 110-volt charger in 10-11 hours. Using a 240-volt charger decreases charge time to approximately 3.5 hours.
Interior
The comfortable, roomy 2020 Escape provides seating for five. Upholstery options include cloth (S and SE trims), ActiveX (SEL trim), and leather (Titanium). All models feature power windows, steering-wheel-mounted audio/cruise controls, power points in the seating and cargo area, a rotary gear shift dial, and lots of interior storage cubbies. The rear seat is a 60/40 split fold-down to provide extra cargo room. The battery in hybrid models is smaller and positioned below the second-row seats, allowing more cargo room. Titanium models include an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 110-volt power outlet, and a heated steering wheel.
All models except for the Escape S include infotainment features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a touch screen display, intelligent access, push-button start, enhanced voice recognition, voice-activated navigation, and satellite radio. Titanium models also include a premium Bang and Olufsen 10-speaker audio system.
Safety Features
Ford's standard SOS Post-Crash Alert System automatically honks the horn and flashes the lights after an accident to alert emergency responders. Ford Co-Pilot360 Tech on every trim includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping system, cross-traffic alert, blind-zone monitoring, a rearview camera, and automatic high beams.
